Base64 Text Encoder and Decoder — Unicode Supported

Encode Unicode text as Base64 or decode Base64 text back to readable UTF-8 in your browser.

Loading the tool… JavaScript is required for processing on your device. The instructions and examples below are available without JavaScript.

How to use it

Choose encode to convert text into Base64, or decode to restore text.

Good to know

Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. This tool handles text rather than binary files.

Convert text for a text-only field

Choose Encode to represent text with Base64 characters. For example, Hello ✓ becomes SGVsbG8g4pyT. Choose Decode to restore the original text. This can help when an integration explicitly asks for Base64-encoded text or when you need to inspect a Base64 text value.

Unicode text is encoded as UTF-8

The converter supports ordinary Unicode text, including नमस्ते ✓, rather than treating each visible character as a single byte. Decode only Base64 that represents valid UTF-8 text; otherwise the tool reports an error. Invalid Base64 text also produces an error instead of a guess.

Base64 is not protection

Anyone can decode Base64. It is an encoding for representation, not encryption, hashing, signing, or password storage. Do not use it to conceal credentials, private keys, or personal data. This tool works with pasted text only; it does not turn an image, PDF, or other binary file into a data URL.

Base64 output is usually longer than the original bytes, so it is rarely a size-saving conversion. Follow the receiving system’s documentation if it expects URL-safe Base64, line wrapping, a data-URL prefix, or binary data—those formats are outside this text converter. Inputs up to 100,000 characters are processed locally in your browser.
