Shuffle participants and deal them into a chosen number of teams whose sizes differ by at most one.

How to use it

Paste one name per line, choose the number of teams, and generate.

Good to know

Team sizes differ by at most one person.

Make teams for a group activity

Paste each participant on a separate line and enter the number of teams. Five names split into two teams produce one team of three and one of two. The tool shuffles the list and deals names in order, so it balances headcount without you sorting names manually.

Balance is only by number of people

The generator does not use skill level, accessibility needs, role constraints, prior teams, or preferences. Duplicate lines represent separate slots, and blank lines are ignored. Check the roster before starting an activity and adjust manually when equal headcount alone would not make an appropriate team.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make random teams for class or sport?

Paste everyone’s names, choose the number of teams, and generate. Run it again for a new mix.

Are the teams even?

Yes. People are shuffled and dealt out like cards, so team sizes never differ by more than one.

Can I create groups of a set size?

Divide the number of people by the group size you want and enter that as the number of teams.
