How to use it
Enter an amount and GST rate, then choose whether the amount excludes or includes GST.
Good to know
Check the current rate for your goods or service. Intra-state supply splits GST equally into CGST and SGST; inter-state uses IGST.
See the arithmetic behind an inclusive or exclusive amount
For an exclusive amount of 1,000 at 18%, the tool returns Net 1,000 + GST 180 = Total 1,180, and shows 90 each for CGST and SGST. For an inclusive total, it divides by 1 + rate ÷ 100; 1,180 at 18% gives a net of 1,000.
Enter the applicable rate yourself
The calculator only applies the rate and mode you select. It does not identify a supply, determine jurisdiction, decide whether GST applies, or produce an invoice or return. The equal CGST/SGST display is an arithmetic split, not a classification of a transaction. Check the relevant tax authority guidance or adviser for the correct treatment.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate GST on an amount?
Multiply the amount by the rate. For ₹1,000 at 18%, GST is ₹180 and the total is ₹1,180.
How do I remove GST from a total?
Divide the total by (1 + rate ÷ 100). ₹1,180 including 18% GST has a base of ₹1,000.
What are CGST and SGST?
For sales within one state, GST is split equally between central (CGST) and state (SGST) tax. Inter-state sales use IGST.
