MD5 Hash Generator — Text Checksums for Legacy Uses

Calculate the 32-character MD5 digest of pasted UTF-8 text for a legacy checksum comparison.

Loading the tool… JavaScript is required for processing on your device. The instructions and examples below are available without JavaScript.

How to use it

Paste text and generate its 32-character MD5 checksum.

Good to know

MD5 is not secure for passwords or signatures. Use it only for checksums and legacy systems.

Compare an exact text value

Paste the exact characters whose digest you need. The text hello world produces 5eb63bbbe01eeed093cb22bb8f5acdc3. A trailing space or line break changes the digest, so copy the source carefully when comparing against another system.

Do not use MD5 for security decisions

MD5 has known collision weaknesses and is unsuitable for password storage, signatures, and integrity checks against an attacker. This tool hashes UTF-8 text only, not uploaded file bytes. Use a current, purpose-appropriate password hashing or cryptographic verification system when security is involved.

Frequently asked questions

Can an MD5 hash be decrypted?

No. MD5 is a one-way hash. Sites that "decrypt" MD5 look up precomputed hashes of common inputs.

Is MD5 safe for passwords?

No. It is fast and has known collisions. Use a password hashing algorithm such as bcrypt or Argon2.

Why does my hash differ from another tool?

Check for trailing spaces or line breaks. This tool hashes the exact UTF-8 text you enter.
