How to use it
Press Start and allow microphone access. Speak and watch the level meter, then record a short clip to play back.
Good to know
Audio stays in your browser and is never uploaded. Stopping the test releases the microphone.
Check input and playback separately
Press Start mic test and allow the browser permission request. Speak at a normal volume: the meter, peak marker, approximate input level, device label, and audio-context sample rate update. When the page sees a sufficiently high signal, it changes the status to indicate activity. Press Record 5 seconds, then play the resulting clip to check that the captured audio is understandable.
Press Stop to release the microphone. If access is blocked or no input is found, the page reports the permission or device error it receives.
Meter movement is not an audio-quality verdict
The meter is based on the current waveform’s RMS level and uses the browser’s selected input. It does not measure calibrated decibels, noise, clipping, echo cancellation, or call quality. Browser permissions, input selection, hardware mute controls, and system privacy settings can prevent a usable capture. The test stays in the browser, but the browser’s own permission indicators still apply.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my microphone online?
Press Start, allow access, and speak. If the meter moves, the browser is receiving a signal; record and listen to check whether it is the intended microphone and usable audio.
Why is my mic not working?
Check it is selected as the input device, not muted, and that the browser has permission. On Windows and macOS also check the privacy settings.
Can I hear myself?
Yes. Record a five-second clip and play it back.
