How to use it

Type a password to see its estimated strength, entropy, and warnings.

Good to know

This is an estimate. Nothing is stored or sent, but avoid typing a password you use today; test a similar one.

Use it to understand a password pattern

Enter a non-production example to see the estimate. Tr0ub4dor&3 is rated Strong at 72 bits by this tool, but it also receives a warning because it has 11 characters and the tool recommends at least 12. The score reflects length, selected character sets, and a few common patterns.

Do not treat the estimate as a security guarantee

The crack-time figure is a simplified offline estimate based on assumed guessing speed. It cannot know whether the password has appeared in a breach, is reused elsewhere, or will face rate limits and multifactor authentication. Do not paste an active password; use a password manager to create and store a unique long password, then use this page only for learning or test values.

Frequently asked questions

How long would it take to crack my password?

The estimate assumes an offline attack at ten billion guesses per second. Real attacks may be faster or slower.

What makes a password strong?

Length matters most. A random passphrase of four or more words, or 16+ random characters, is very hard to guess.

Is it safe to check my password here?

The check runs only in your browser. Even so, it is better to test a similar password rather than your real one.
