How to use it
Enter a number from 1 to 3999, or a Roman numeral such as MMXXVI. Dates like 2026 work too.
Good to know
Uses standard subtractive notation (IV, IX, XL…). Numbers above 3999 need overlines and are not supported.
Convert a year or chapter number
Enter a number between 1 and 3999. The value 2026 returns MMXXVI. In the other direction, mmxxvi returns 2026; input is normalized to uppercase before validation.
Only standard subtractive notation is accepted
The tool recognizes I, V, X, L, C, D, and M and validates the canonical form, so IIII is rejected with a suggestion of IV. Values above 3999 need an overline convention that this tool does not implement. Historical clock faces and inscriptions can use nonstandard forms, which should be preserved or interpreted in their own context.
Frequently asked questions
How do you write 2026 in Roman numerals?
2026 is MMXXVI: MM (2000) + XX (20) + VI (6).
How do I convert a birth date to Roman numerals?
Convert the day, month, and year separately, for example 14 · 7 · 1998 becomes XIV · VII · MCMXCVIII.
Why is 4 written IV and not IIII?
Standard notation places a smaller numeral before a larger one to subtract it. Some clocks still use IIII.
