How to use it

Set a frequency and waveform, lower the volume, then press Play.

Good to know

Start quietly, especially with headphones. Very low and very high tones may be inaudible or unsafe at high volume.

Start quietly and change one setting at a time

Set a frequency with the logarithmic slider, number field, or preset buttons; choose a waveform; set the level; then press Play. Press Stop before switching devices or putting on headphones. A cautious check might begin with the volume low at 440 Hz, then use separate manual choices such as 60 Hz, 1 kHz, and 5 kHz.

The current frequency updates while playing, as do waveform and volume controls.

It generates a signal; it does not certify equipment

Speakers, headphones, room acoustics, system volume, hearing, and browser audio processing determine what is audible. This tool does not sweep automatically, measure sound pressure, test hearing, or diagnose speakers. Very low and high frequencies can be inaudible or uncomfortable; stop if sound is unpleasant and keep the level low, especially with headphones.

Frequently asked questions

What frequencies can humans hear?

Audibility depends on the person, playback device, volume, and environment. This generator cannot test hearing; it only requests a frequency from the browser.

Can I test my speakers or subwoofer?

You can play selected tones quietly to observe output. The tool does not measure response or diagnose a speaker; do not raise the volume to chase an inaudible tone.

What is 440 Hz?

The A above middle C, the standard tuning pitch.
