How to use it
Choose a duration and start typing the words shown. The timer starts with your first keystroke.
Good to know
WPM counts five correct characters as one word. Accuracy compares every character you typed.
Use the same test conditions
Choose a duration, place the cursor in the text box, and begin typing the displayed passage. The first input starts the timer. Each typed character is compared at the same position with the generated text; pasted text is blocked. At the end, the field locks and the tool shows WPM, accuracy, typed characters, and time remaining.
WPM here is correct characters divided by five, divided by elapsed minutes. Accuracy is correct characters divided by all typed characters, including extra or incorrect ones.
Compare like with like
The passage uses a fixed bank of common English words chosen at random. Autocorrect, keyboard layout, input method, and the passage itself can change results. This is a practice measurement, not a standardized certification; a high WPM does not show performance on editing, transcription, or technical vocabulary.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good typing speed?
Compare attempts using the same text, duration, and input device. This site does not provide a population ranking or certified typing score.
How is WPM calculated?
Correctly typed characters divided by five, divided by the minutes elapsed.
Does it work on a phone?
Phone keyboards can be used. Autocorrect and input methods change the task, so compare attempts under similar conditions.
